St. Mark's Episcopal Church

Share a story

St. Mark's is the oldest congregation in this region of Iowa, having been established in 1855, 14 years before the city of Fort Dodge was incorporated when the local population numbered a mere 11 people. Our present church structure was built in 1894 and is generally considered one of the most beautiful churches in our community.

Through the years, the parish has helped shape the fabric of the city in many ways and contributed to the founding of many of the institutions that exist to assist people in need or facing crisis. We believe that every person is loved by God and made in God’s image. We strive for justice and peace in our own congregation and within the larger world. We have a long tradition of outreach and service in our community.
We invite you to join us for worship in our historic church on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Holy Communion is served every Sunday- it is the Lord's table and open to all who wish to receive, including children.

Our congregation strives to LOVE, SERVE, AND WORSHIP Jesus Christ.
God bless.

Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles

Racial Reconciliation

Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
