History
Worshippers first gathered to form this church in 1958 as St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and later merged with St. John’s Episcopal Church in 1997 to become Christ Episcopal Church. This building was built in 1962 with an addition for the classroom wing in 1996. With God’s help, Christ Episcopal Church has grown to be one of the most vibrant Episcopal congregations in Iowa.
Our Focus Today
Christ Episcopal Church is focused on living the baptismal covenant through active participation in worship, education programs, outreach, and a variety of small groups. Christ Church has an active healing ministry, prayer shawl ministry, Bible study groups, gatherings for women, men, couples and families, and has expanded the relational concept of outreach in our community, within our parish, and to our sisters and brothers in the Diocese of Swaziland in Eswatini, the Diocese of Brechin in Scotland, and the Diocese of Nzara in South Sudan.
Music peals forth from a variety of groups: choir, bell choir, organ and piano performance and instrumental ensembles.
Two worship opportunities are offered each weekend. On Sunday mornings 10:15 a.m. is a choral Eucharist which follows Rite Two in the Book of Common Prayer. On Sunday evenings is a more informal Celtic worship service that is quiet and contemplative with candles and contemporary music.
Youth pilgrimages and urban immersion experiences are fully supported through the Journey to Adulthood program. Godly Play has a vital role for elementary school-aged youth.
We are a welcoming congregation. ALL ARE WELCOME!
