Ministries
Adult Formation
9AM Adult Forum
All classes meet Sunday mornings at 9:00am at St. Francis In-The Fields in the Dining Room. Our Adult Formation is a place for parishioners to think, discuss and wonder about their faith together.
Ladies Bible Study and Book Club
Women of the parish join for study of the Bible on Thursday mornings, embracing the spirit of knowledge and learning in community during the academic year. In summer and winter gathering of the women of the parish on Thursday mornings to read a book or novel together, expressing opinions, sharing insights and learning together.
Men's Bible Study and Fellowship
The Men's Faith Journey is a group dedicated to an exploration of our Christian faith through the shared experience of conversation and prayer. The group meets in homes twice a month on Wednesday nights from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. All men of St. Francis-in-the-Fields are welcome to attend. Contact the Church Office to get in touch with the Men's Faith Journey. The Men's Group also cooks and serves the annual Shrove Sunday Pancake Supper and sometimes undertakes a service project for the church.
Children and Youth Formation
Catechumenate: Catechumenate is a class in Christian understandings in preparation for baptism, confirmation or reaffirmation. Meets in the winter with confirmation available in the spring.
Christian Formation Leadership Council (CFLC): The CFLC is a group of adults and youth charged with creating and leading Christian formation for children and youth.
Communion Formation: Young members of our church family learn about the meaning of receiving Holy Communion in a fun and active environment.
Episcopal Youth Community Junior (EYC Jrs)
This group meets in the SundaySchool/EYC Jrs room after the 10:00 service through noon, starting Sept. 8, 2019. They have two dedicated teachers for each Sunday with many other assistants, and they are using a curriculum for this age group that is an extension of the program used by the Sunday School group.
Ages: Grades 4 - 6.
Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)
EYC will meet in the newly dedicated EYC room (off of the dining room) after the 10:00 service through noon, starting Sept. 8, 2019. They will have two to three dedicated teachers with many other assistants, and they are using a curriculum called Rite 13/ J2A, with numerous service and fellowship opportunities throughout the year, including service projects and Fall and Spring Diocesan Youth Retreats.
Ages: Grades 7 and older.
Nursery and Sunday School: A safe and peaceful place located just off the lobby, for children from birth to Kindergarten, with age-appropriate learning and play. Our Sunday school lessons are taken from the Episcopal Children's Curriculum (ECC) offered by Virginia Theological Seminary.
Music Ministries
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir enriches the Sunday and special worship services with music. All who love to sing are welcome — no experience necessary!
Concert Volunteers
Volunteers assist with hospitality and support for SFZ musical concerts held at St. Francis In-The-Fields.
Occasional Choirs
Youth and adults who enjoy singing and desire a short-term commitment join the choir for special occasions, for instance Christmas, Easter, and Music Appreciation Sunday.
Service / Outreach
Dayspring Center
Volunteer with the Dayspring Center, a shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
Community Gardeners
Caring for God’s creation, the gardeners cultivate plots behind the church, chemical free, and donate fresh vegetables to the weekly food delivery.
Blessing Box
A free pantry box located at St. Francis by the Boys and Girls Club entrance, this free-will offering of nonperishable food items is open to all who face food insecurity.
Mission Opportunities
Participating in missionary trips around the world to spread God’s love in service and upholding the dignity of all people.
Outreach Activities
Different Outreach Activities throughout the year are coordinated by the Service/Outreach team, such as Christmas Bags, Crop Walk, Pack-Away-Hunger, and food drives.
Pumpkin Place
Volunteers staff our annual pumpkin patch and 100% of the proceeds fund St. Francis In-The-fields Outreach activities during the month of October.
Thanksgiving Pies
Help provide over 70 pies for the food pantry at The Caring Place in Lebanon in time for Thanksgiving. Parishioners make, buy and donate funds for pies, and also help transport and coordinate this ministry of thanks and generosity.
Weekly Food Delivery
A group of people who deliver the weekly food donations to the Zionsville Food Pantry or the Caring Center in Lebanon.
Welcoming & Parish Life
Building and Grounds
From the sanctuary to the gardens, this group of dedicated volunteers oversees the grounds and building of the church.
Coffee Hour Hosts
Coffee and refreshments are provided by families following the 10:00am Holy Eucharist during the year to bring the parish together in fellowship.
Fall Festival Float
Share the life of St. Francis with our community in the Zionsville Fall Festival parade, helping to build our float and march in the parade on September 8th.
Greeters
A team of friendly parishioners who welcome all people to worship at St. Francis In-The-Fields and assist newcomers.
Newcomers
Get to know prospective members and offer a personal connection to newcomers.
Meals Ministry (In-Home Meals)
Volunteers make and bring food to parish members welcoming a child, recovering from illness, surgery or other need.
Men’s Group
Men of the parish gather for food, study, and fellowship.
Special Events
Event volunteers help with special gatherings, such as picnics, funerals and festive coffee hours. Activities include everything from working in the kitchen to set up brunch, or host a reception.
Transportation
Volunteers help bring parishioners to church on Sundays, either to the 8:00am or 10:00am Holy Eucharist.
Women’s Fellowship
Women of the parish gather together to support one another in friendship and service.
Worship Groups and Guilds
Acolytes
Acolytes assist the clergy members in the Holy Eucharist, including serving as torchbearers, crucifers, thurifers, and gospel bearers, help in preparation of the altar. Ages: Grades 3 to adult.
Altar Guild
Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, including caring for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens.
Christmas Pageant
A festive celebration of Christmas with a Nativity play and Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve. Volunteers help with formation, coordinate the play, and provide snacks for participants during the rehearsal and before the service.
Flower Guild
The Flower Guild supervises the decoration of the church with flowers.
Lay Eucharistic Minister
Lay people serving on the altar to assist the clergy in giving out the consecrated elements (Bread and Wine) of the Holy Eucharist.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors
Lay Eucharistic Visitors provide the sacrament to members of the parish who are hospitalized, homebound, or otherwise unable to attend church.
Lectors
Lay people who read the scripture lessons and lead the prayers of the people.
Thurifers / Boat Bearers
The server or acolyte who assists with the use of incense during the eucharist and other special liturgies.
Ushers
Ushers are responsible for handing out bulletins and seating guests.
