The congregation was formed in 1949 and after meeting for several years in various places in Northbrook, land was purchased and the current church structure and office/education building erected in 1958. The Village of Northbrook is a place of rich religious diversity with a gradually aging population, known for its excellent public schools. Liturgy at St. Giles is fairly traditional and mindful of the Anglican/Episcopal heritage, but we are not afraid to be innovative, particularly on the second Sunday of each month. Our mission is feeding people - "Body, Mind, and Spirit". We are known for our long-standing excellent music program and for our feeding ministries. Our main service is Sunday morning at 10:15; we also offer Evening Prayer at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays, and other weekday services as needed and desired.

ST. GILES COMMUNITY GARDEN OF FEEDIN'

Creation Care/Community Gardens

In 2008, in response to the economic slowdown and the desire in the Village for residents to garden together, our community garden was established. We began with 12 plots; within two years we had grown to 30. Gardeners are approximately a 50-50 mix of parishioners and other local residents. Several plots are dedicated to the Northfield Township Food Pantry, and gardeners are asked to "tithe" their own produce to the pantry as well, with a core group of drivers delivering the food. In the autumn we celebrate with a Harvest Festival, open to the public, featuring potluck dishes prepared with garden-grown vegetables, music, and often dancing.

Food Pantries

For over three decades, St. Giles parishioners have been driving donated food from local grocery stores and restaurants to food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout the Chicago region. In addition, five years ago our parish helped create the Hunger Resource Network, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to matching business having surplus food with organizations that help alleviate hunger. In summer months we also deliver fresh produce from our community garden to the local food pantry.
