The people of St. Chrysostom's proclaim God’s love through Jesus Christ. Our mission is to create strong disciples who are energized by our excellence in worship, education, music, fellowship and service. Since 1893 we have been firmly anchored in the Anglican tradition, with liturgy and formation as our primary focus.
Whoever you are and whever you find yourself on the journey of faith, yor are welcome here as you are to recieve the blessings of God and to hear the call of God in your life.
While our core identity remains constant, we believe the best way to remain vibrant and growing is to stay in tune and in touch with our parishioners, neighbors and the city of Chicago. To that end, we embrace newcomers and the gifts and insights they can share to keep us vital and ever relevant.
Ministries
Neighbors in Need
Neighbors in Need is so much more than serving vegetables & dip, crackers & cheese and dinner to 90 or so guests. It is a ministry that invites all of to contribute in a variety of interesting ways.
There is planning the menu, coordinating volunteers, updating lists of invitees, printing envelope labels, designing the monthly invitation and handwriting each individuals name on his or her invitation and getting them mailed. Yes, we mail each individual his or her own personalized invitation. For some, it’s the only piece of personal mail they get.
There is shopping and cooking the whole day of the dinner, setting up and taking down the tables and chairs and tablecloths and utensils, getting our dinner guests to sign in at the right time, to greet and talk with them and help them settle in.
A longtime parishioner plays the piano for them while they eat.
We serve our neighbors a balanced meal and soda, and make sure there are prayer cards on each of the tables.
You might not know that you already participate in our NIN program. Every week in our Prayers of the People we include the special needs of our very special guests and we pray for them together.
And the day after the dinner, it starts all over again.
We gather with our neighbors on the third Tuesday of every month.
Sacred Ground Race Dialogue Circles
Sacred Ground is dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a resource coming out of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.
