Located in DeFuniak Springs, Northwest Florida, on Lake DeFuniak. The town was the first winter home for Chautauqua. The congregation is welcoming and ethnically diverse. Sunday service is held at 10.15am. Children's Sunday School follows the service.
The town of c. 5500 residents, (17,000 in the surrounding area) continues the Chautauqua tradition by hosting a Chautauqua celebration each year. St. Agatha is the only church remaining from the Chautauqua era (1885-1937). Valued by the entire community, St. Agatha's is the only church in the area with a handcrafted pipe organ.
St. Agatha's was founded about 1890. The church building, with seating for 66, was completed in 1896 and is one of three structures in the mission's close that are contributing sites in the DeFuniak Springs Historic District which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church contains a hand made pipe organ patterned after a Hadyn organ in England. The other structures are: Morris House (1889) which contains the parish hall (seating 36), two kitchens, the church office, a dinning room (seating 12), three upstainrs bed rooms and a parlor for private and small group meetings; and Murray House (1887), formerly the vicarage, which is now being used by the diocesan School for Ministry on the second weekend of the month and is available for small retreats, seminars, and meetings at other times. Murray House contains a kitchen, breakfast room, parlor, classroom with wifi and digital teaching media, dining room, and four bedrooms. The adjacent yard, used for picnics and other outdoor activities, completes the close. The Murray House and grounds are available for community affairs, picnics, weddings and other events--please contact the parish office for a fee schedule and calendar.stagathadefuniak.org
