St. Paul's Church
Share a story
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Payson, Arizona was formed in 1969 when twelve communicants began meeting in the Payson Women's Club on Main Street. At the time of the dedication of the present church building on June 25, 1972, the congregation had grown to 50 communicants in good standing under the spiritual guidance of various supply clergy, most often Deacon Bob Donovan from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winslow, Arizona. Deacon Donovan later became our first Vicar. On October 14, 2011, under the guidance of our former priest, Father Dan Tantimonaco, St. Paul's celebrated full parish status in the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona with Arizona's Bishop, The Right Reverend Kirk S. Smith, presiding.
We believe that our responsibility as Christians is to give life to the teachings of Jesus Christ through our own spiritual development, and by example foster and nurture spiritual growth in others.
With over 220 currently baptized members, St. Paul's is a growing, multigenerational congregation serving Payson and the surrounding area. The parishioners of St. Paul's actively support numerous community, diocesan, and national outreach programs. Fellowship activities are many and fun, and our children enjoy learning about our faith during Sunday School. We invite you to join our church family as we celebrate the Holy Eucharist each Sunday!
It is an exciting time for St. Paul's. Plans are being finalized which will lay the foundation for our future growth. Along Highway 87, just a short distance from our present location, is the location of our new church campus. This new campus will include a larger church, education building, parish hall, and more parking. We are currently raising funds for this Capital Campaign and are excited to break ground soon. Ministries
Caring Ministry
Caring Ministry members are available to: provide assistance to those in need through convalescent visits, maintain a phone tree to check in with parishioners on an as needed basis, provide meals in the short-term for those unable to prepare food; or assist parishioners with shopping or transportation.
Cursillo Ministry
This is a movement with the goal to bring all to Christ and to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders. At St. Paul's we have an active group of men and women who meet on a regular basis and remain active in this diocesan movement.
Evangelism Team
This team guides, supports, and kindles enthusiasm in every member of St. Paul's parishioners to share their faith with others. Our Evangelism Team has a deep concern for friends, neighbors, and acquaintances who are not active church members. Their goal is to share their spiritual experiences and faith in God in order to lead others to our faith community.
Food Bank Ministry
This ministry is vital to the Payson community at large and continues to be strongly supported by the members of St. Paul's. Both non-perishable items and monetary contributions are accepted. St. Paul's helps to stock and work the local food bank at St. Vincent de Paul and the Community Presbyterian Church in Payson.
The Order of St. Luke
This group is comprised of parishioners who pray for the health and concerns of others. Members are available to pray with people who have needs after each Sunday service as well as after the Service of Healing and Holy Eucharist on Wednesdays. Members of the Order of St. Luke also assist our priest with prayers at our Wednesday service. All prayer requests are confidential.
Prayer Quilt Ministry
This group gathers regularly to craft lap-sized quilts that are then tied together with yarn and given to those in need of extra prayers for medical, spiritual, or emotional reasons. God has the power to comfort and heal those in need; we only have to ask through prayer. The quilt is the outward sign of these prayers. The quilt is blessed at a Sunday service and hung outside the church for parishioners to tie a knot on. Each knot signifies a prayer said by each parishioner for those in need of comfort.
Worship Ministries
There are a number of worship ministries to be part of at St. Paul's. These opportunities include becoming an acolyte or lay eucharistic minister, baking the bread used during our services, volunteering to be a greeter to help welcome new members at each service, arranging the flowers for each service as part of the Flower Guild, etc.
