Church:
To worship God and minister to each other and the community so that Christ’s transforming love
may be known in the world is The Mission of All Saints’. All Saints’ is located in the thriving neighborhood community of Homewood, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. We are a parish of loving and caring people who believe and try to live by the creeds we say each Sunday. We are a big church with a small church feel. With a membership of just over 1700, All Saints’ is the fifth largest Episcopal church in the Diocese of Alabama. However, one of the things most loved by our parishioners is the “small church” feel they have when attending services here. At All Saints’ you will find a welcoming community of people seeking a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ. By worshipping together, learning together, playing together, and serving together we find ourselves strengthened and renewed to face the challenges of life in the 21st century.
2017 marks the 89th anniversary of the founding of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. In the Spring of 1928 a group of women who had moved to Homewood and were members of other Birmingham Episcopal Churches began meeting together. Bishop William G. McDowell led them in weekly Lenten services. In July, with financial assistance from the Cathedral Church of the Advent and St. Mary’s-on-the Highland, the first Episcopal parish south of Jones Valley in Jefferson County was established in a room above the Edgewood Drug Store at the corner of Oxmoor and Broadway in Homewood.
All Saints’ Episcopal Preschool
The preschool is a ministry of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. The Preschool serves children ages six months to 5K Kindergarten. Our program operates during the school year from 9:00 am -1:00 pm Monday through Friday. A summer program is offered during the months of June and July. Our mission is to provide a positive, nurturing, Christ-centered educational environment using developmentally appropriate activities to encourage each child to reach his or her fullest potential. With 164 children enrolled in the program and 29 teachers on staff we have a world of opportunities to reach and teach these children on a daily basis.
All Saints’ Preschool is a vibrant Christian community. Our teachers actively look for ways to reflect on God’s goodness throughout the day. Chapel services with stories that demonstrate God’s love, prayers, and song are held weekly for students age three and older. Children enrolled in the three, four and five years old program are offered Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which is a Montessori based program that tells stories of God’s love. Through the use of concrete materials children explore the meaning of Bible stories in their lives. Trained Catechists from All Saints’ Episcopal Children’s Formation work with these children weekly.

ADULT MINISTRIES
Adult Christian Education at All Saints’ includes several Sunday morning classes, the Wednesday evening “Oasis” program, weekday Bible studies, EfM, and occasional special programs. These classes serve as a place for community building as well as Christian education. Our Sunday School year typically follows the school year calendar, with classes taking a break during the summer.
Some of these classes use curricula that are designed to be covered over a series of weeks, others over a period of several months. In either case, new members are always invited to participate, both as participants and as teachers. Each August and January we produce a Christian Formation brochure that provides detailed information on that season’s classes.
